Longline Fishing Vessel
Longline fishing, or
longlining, is a commercial fishing angling technique
that uses a long main line with baited hooks attached at
intervals via short branch lines. Longlines are
classified mainly by where they are placed in the water
column. This can be at the surface or at the bottom.
Lines can also be set by means of an anchor, or left to
drift. Hundreds or even thousands of baited hooks can
hang from a single line. Longliners fishing vessels
target mainly swordfish, tuna, and halibut.
The
NORTHERN LEADER is the largest and most innovative
commercial fishing longliner built in the U.S. in over
20 years. The longline fishing vessel employs advanced
technology which substantially reduces fuel consumption
such as 100% LED lighting and the Diesel Electric Power
Management System that controls the vessel propulsion
units and all other electrical demands.
This longline fishing
model was commissioned by the curator
of Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago in 2016.
The fishing boat model is one of our three models that are
permanently exhibited in a sealed glass at the
museum. If
you are a museum curator who wants the best models
possible or a philanthropist who wants to donate a ship
model to a museum, ModelShipMaster would be your natural
choice.
